Introduction to Vulpera, Switzerland

The tiny village of Vulpera is twinned with its neighbour, Bad Tarasp, to make the settlement of Bad Tarasp-Volpera, known as an attractive ski resort located in the Swiss canton of Graubunden's Inn district. With a permanent population of only 360, Vulpera relies on its winter visitors to the ski slopes set in the Sesvenna mountain range for its economic survival. Settlement in the area began in the 11th century, with national heritage-listed Tarasp Castle looming over the twin villages from its bare peak high above the valley. The Belle epoque architecture of the first hotel to open in the area confirmed its reputation as an upscale visitor destination in the late 19th century, with present-day Vulpera hotels welcoming tourists from all over for the winter skiing and summer hiking. This charming, quiet place with its picturesque white-painted Alpine architecture isn't known for its apres-ski offerings, with most visitors happy with the few restaurants and small spas.
