Introduction to Villeneuve, Switzerland

Located along the scenic route that skirts the west side of Geneva Lake, the town of Villeneuve is about as picturesque as they come.

With less than 5,000 permanent residents, it has the sparse and rustic feel of a place that could be called a getaway, particularly for those caught in an urban grind on a daily basis.

To top it off, Villeneuve is easy to get to by both land and water as it's just off Route 27, about six miles south of Montreaux and is located along Lake Geneva at its easternmost tip.

Along with its renown as a bird watching haven thanks to Grangette Nature Reserve and the appeal of the nearby Rhone delta for geology types, the town has a robust commercial sector with discount shopping centres and a supermarket, which are not common in the region.

Many Villeneuve hotels feature vistas of the water to the east and the mountains to the west.
