Introduction to Vevey, Switzerland
Nestled by Lake Geneva, Vevey is an idyllic town and the home of milk chocolate, invented here in 1875 by Daniel Peter. The Nestle headquarters are a dominant landmark but the food manufacturer has also created an informative museum, the Alimentarium, which takes visitors on trip through the history of nutrition and cooking with interactive exhibits. On the lake, paddlewheel steam boats gently cruise around and take in many of the most stunning sections of the water. Paths around the lake invite visitors to explore on foot or by bicycle, and ascending Les Pleiades mountain opens up views of the Waadtland Riviera, the Alps and the stars at the observatory at the top. Vevey hotels match five-star facilities with the five-star surroundings, and there are several good quality three-star locations.
