Introduction to Vals, Switzerland
Surselva district's Vals in Graubunden, Switzerland, is characterised by its Walser-built homes set amid an impressive mountainscape. These Valliser style houses feature triangular roofs, and are mostly made of wood. The village itself is where Vals hotels in the municipality are primarily located, with few options available in the surrounding Leis hamlets. At an elevation of just over 4,000ft, the village offers easy access to superb hiking terrain, as well as the Zervreilasee reservoir. The highest point of the municipality is Rheinwaldhorn, at over 11,000ft. Yet the highlight of a trip here for most visitors is the thermal baths. This is where Valser mineral water originates from, as well as Valserstein granite, known for its sparkle. Local heritage sites in the village include a double house, recognised as being of national heritage significance. In winter, it is possible to ski on nearby slopes, but there isn't a ski resort as such. The E43 runs north-south to the east of Vals and connects with Churs to the north and Milan, Italy, to the south. other spellings: valshotels, wals otel, valz hotell, varls hote, valls hotle, valss hotes
