Introduction to Vaettis, Switzerland

Roughly a 30-minute drive from Chur via the A13, Vaettis is a small Swiss community of just 400 people. While close to Chur, it sits across the Graubunden border in St Gallen canton. The Austrian border sits to the northeast. Most visitors use the village as a base for connecting with the area's best known tourist destinations, such as St Moritz, where skiing is the order or the day in season. There are only a handful of Vaettis hotels for visitors to choose between, as well as limited eateries. The main attraction of a visit here is the wonderful alpine scenery, with photograph-worthy landscapes around just about every corner. Outdoor lovers will enjoy the fine hiking, horseback riding and cycling in this eastern part of the country, while indoor lovers will be just as cosy inside in the chalet-like architecture of the village. Getting to Vaettis can be done by flying into Samedan Airport, 54kms away, or by accessing the village from Chur, which is connected to Zurich, 75kms away by rail.
