Introduction to Twann, Switzerland

Twann's total area is only nine kilometres squared, but with only seven per cent of this Bern canton land developed, there is still plenty of space for nature lovers and outdoorsmen to explore the sprawling forests, expansive glaciers, winding rivers or humble mountains that make up the remaining 93 per cent of this tiny commune with a shrinking population of around 900 people. There are boat cruises along the banks of the adjoining Bielersee lake that travel by Twann hotels as well as vineyards that produce a unique wine that is highly regarded in a Swiss region that truly cares about its drink.
