Introduction to St Moritz - St Moritz-Bad
The popular Swiss resort of St Moritz has been an international destination for some time. During the Middle Ages, it became famous for the healing powers possessed by its mineral springs. Now it is most well known for its sporting facilities. It has staged two Winter Olympics and offers up almost every winter sport you can think of, from bobsledding to golf on the frozen lake. St Moritz is comprised of two areas which are separated by the lake shore. The first is the main village of St Moritz Dorf, while the second is St Moritz-Bad, which sprawls in the valley on the lake's southwest corner. This area is mostly modern, with a sprinkling of 19th century buildings in between the villas and apartment blocks. The public swimming pool, cross-country ski centre and ice stadium are found in Bad. St Moritz-Bad hotels are generally traditional and range from upmarket hotels to cosy rural inns.
