Switzerland's Sigriswil is a little lakeside village in Bern canton. Although tiny, it sees a fair amount of tourist trade, with visitors coming to the farming community for its surrounding alpine and Thun Lake scenery, nearby astronomical observatory and unhurried pace of life. The German-speaking villagers welcome visitors, who have a moderate choice of Sigriswil hotels from which to soak up the views. Aside from the surrounding landscapes, Sternwarte Sirius is the most significant visitor attraction nearby. This Stiftung Sternwarte Planetarium SIRIUS-operated observatory is situated on higher ground than Sigriswil, at just over 1,000m, and offers impressive views of the night skies to keen astrologers. Hikers can trek their way through nearby alpine trails in summer or ditch their hiking boots for their swimming shorts and indulge in water sports on the lake. A busy events calendar keeps visitors lingering, but it is perhaps the village's proximity to several notable castles, icluding the 12th century Castle Thun, that is the biggest draw for history buffs.
