Introduction to Scuol, Switzerland
While only one per cent of residents of Switzerland speak Romanish, 64 per cent of the residents of the Swiss town of Scuol speak it. Here, in the far easternmost part of the country, lies this town, situated delightfully between the Engadin Dolomites and the Silvretta range. This part of the confederation is known for its sunshine, natural beauty and unique cultural attributes. The landscape is scrumptiously unspoilt. At the village fountain, mineral water gurgles. You can enjoy the area's healing effects at the Engadin Bad Scuol health baths which opened in 1993. No fewer than 14 railways zip winter sports enthusiasts up to the ski area of Motta Naluns in the Alps come wintertime. Particularly popular is the region's 12-kilometre-long 'dream piste'. Other attractions here are the 11th century Tarasp Castle, which perches on a 100-metre high rock, and Bad Engadin Scuol, a luxurious thermal spa. The 172 square-kilometre Swiss National Park boasts 80kms of hiking trails.
