Introduction to Schwyz, Switzerland
Handsomely situated Schwyz is a canton in the middle of Switzerland, bordered by Lake Lucerne in the east, Lake Zurich in the north and the Alps in the south. Schwyz town is within the canton. The Swiss Federal Charter is displayed in the town. Northeast of Schwyz is the old Einsiedeln Abbey. The views of nature are sensational, particularly on the area's many hiking trails. Snaking through the canton are the Sihl and Muota rivers. About 75 per cent of the hilly area is richly appropriate for agriculture. There are many lakes in the region, such as the Zug, the Lauerz and the Sihl. The mountains of Bos Fulen, Kulm and Scheidegg rise attractively on the horizon. Besides agriculture, tourism is a main moneymaker, particularly in the Einsiedeln region, where many winter sporting opportunities are offered. Just downhill of Schwyz town, the Swiss Army knife is produced by Victorinox. Schwyz hotels make spending time in and appreciating this storied land all the easier.
