Schiers is a village and municipality in the Graubunden region of eastern Switzerland. Schiers hosts one of Switzerland's finest examples of civil engineering, the Salginatobel Bridge. The bridge spans the scenic Prattigau Valley and has been recognised as a both a National Heritage site and an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. As such, village accommodation caters to large numbers of designers and engineers who are on pilgrimages to the bridge. However, other visiting tourists will still be able to appreciate this spectacular and artistic structure. The bridge is about an hour's walk northeast of the village centre, but travellers can also take one of the four daily buses towards Schuders. All of these buses stop on the bridge. The village is also a popular base with outdoors enthusiasts. Paragliding and rafting are among the more popular pursuits. Many travellers get here by train, arriving at the village station on Muhliweg. A short walk north to Dorfstrasse brings visitors to the main commercial area where restaurants, shops and Schiers hotels can all be found.
