Sainte Croix is a picturesque village in the far northwest of Switzerland.

Part of the Vaud region, the village is just three miles from the French border.

It has a scenic location at the foot of the Chasseron, a peak which is more than 1,600 metres high.

Some guests use Sainte Croix as an overnight stop after climbing the peak.

Those that complete this four-hour hike will be rewarded with fantastic views of Lake Neuchatel below, especially from the peak's excellent restaurant.

Another hike starting from the village takes in part of the Jura Mountain Trail, as far as Vallon de l'Orbe.

This walk allows hikers to experience a complete view of western Switzerland.

The village is a year-round destination.

Some hikes can be completed in snowshoes during wintertime, while there is plenty of skiing on the Chasseron slopes.

The village is known as the home of mechanical music.

The Museum of Music Boxes and Automatons, known to some as CIMA, tells the story of this art through the ages.

Travellers can reach Sainte Croix hotels by taking the narrow-gauge train from Yverdon-les-Bains, just 12 miles from the village centre.
