Sachseln is a village municipality located in central Switzerland's Obwalden region. In fact, it is actually regarded as Switzerland's geographical centre. The centre is marked by a small monument on the alggi Alp, which is one of the village's main tourist sights. Getting here is a nice hike, but the village is also accessible by car or bicycle. Sachseln is situated on the shore of Lake Sarnen, where a small beach appeals to locals and tourists alike. The lake itself is popular with anglers, while the surrounding mountains have plenty of routes to occupy hikers, cyclists and climbers. The main historical sights are related to the local saint, Bruder Klaus. His place of residence, place of birth and museum are all among the main places of interest. By visiting these places, visitors will learn more about his life as well as his visions which gave him such spiritual insight. His final burial place is in the tower of the old parish church. This spot is visited by more than 100,000 devotees each year. Travellers can reach Sachseln hotels by taking one of the regular trains departing from Lucerne or by driving here on the A8.
