Introduction to Riederalp, Switzerland
In the winter, Riederalp has 30kms of runs that are mainly an even mix of beginner and intermediate slopes. More advanced skiers will need to go further up the mountain for off-piste challenges, and there is a heli-skiing service to reach the more technical areas. The village is elevated at slightly less than 2,000m above sea level, and views take in the much larger 4,000m tall Valais Alps peaks and Europe's largest glacier, Aletsch. The glacier is 23kms long and carries ice the equivalent of around 27 billion metric tonnes. A good network of seven ski lifts connects the slopes, and the surrounding region has 31 lifts which expand the skiing area to 110kms of pistes. Not only do Riederalp hotels cater for skiers, but also in spas and wellness.
