Rheinfelden is a town located on the left bank of the River Rhine in Switzerland's Aargau region. The German city of the same name sits on the opposite bank, since the Rhine actually forms the border between Switzerland and Germany in this region. Rheinfelden has a typical Old Town, in common with many other Swiss towns and cities. Its wide market street and winding lanes are delightful places to explore. The most scenic way to get here is by taking a lock cruise from Basel. This cruise takes around 2 hours, 30 minutes and negotiates two locks and offers the chance to stop at several places of interest. Those who have travelled by train, and have already checked-in to their Rheinfelden hotels, will be keen to visit some of the city's historical attractions. The two best places to learn about the town's history are St Martin's Church and the Baroque-style Town Hall. The former has been recognised as a Swiss National Heritage site. Visitors more interested in art might like to visit Museum Jean Tinguely. This museum displays a number of works by the most celebrated iron sculptor in Switzerland.
