Introduction to Mustair, Switzerland
Located right in the far east of Switzerland in the district of Inn on the Italian border, Mustair is surrounded by green pastures and carved Alpine mountains that make a spectacular backdrop to the town. The tourism highlight here is undoubtedly the Convent of St John, an old Benedictine monastery and UNESCO World Heritage site courtesy of its well-preserved Carolingian art which dates back to around the 9th century. The paintings are of religious and artistic significance due to their age and unique style, while the building itself is a series of connected brick structures mostly in striking white with a rectangular clock tower. With a population of fewer than 800 people, this is a peaceful little town known as the easternmost in all of Switzerland.
