Introduction to Meilen, Switzerland
The town of Meilen is located on the north shore of Lake Zurich, in Switzerland. It is a popular destination with visiting tourists due to a number of sightseeing opportunities. The Protestant church dominates the town and features on every postcard, set against the backdrop of the local vineyards. The church was built in the 15th century and is worth a look. Guests could also visit the town's oldest pub, the Lion (Lowen). It is still open for business and regularly caters to political meetings and cultural events. Meilen's three mansions are also worth taking in. The oldest mansion, Seehalde, dates back to the 16th century. It gives a taste of the lives lived by affluent winemakers in those heady days. The town is served by four lines on Zurich's S-Bahn network. Alternatively, travellers can get here by car ferry from Horgen, which is situated on the opposite side of the lake. The train station is located on Dorfstrasse, where a number of restaurants and retail outlets can be found.
