Introduction to Lucerne - Old Town
Lucerne’s Old Town is one of Europe’s best preserved medieval cities. It is also one of the smallest, meaning that all of its interesting sights can be covered on foot. Guests staying at Old Town hotels have the chance to explore its narrow streets and alleyways, where painted murals adorn many of its buildings. One of the best ways to see the district is by strolling along the Musegg Wall (Musseggmauer). This ancient city wall overlooks the historical district and still features nine of its original watchtowers. A pleasant stroll begins from Schirmer-Turm, past the well-known Jazzkantine. Visitors should not miss a walking tour of the Chapel Bridge either. This ancient wooden structure was built in the 1300s and is considered to symbolise the city. The Old Town is a shopper’s paradise too, especially with regards to designer clothes. The easiest way to reach the district is by train, as the main station is just 400m away, across the Seebrucke bridge. Trains arrive here from all over the country, including direct services from Zurich Airport.Visit our Lucerne Travel Guide
