Introduction to Leukerbad, Switzerland
Striking cliffs surround Leukerbad, where cable cars effortlessly lift people up to the southern and northeastern summits, which are both over 2,000 metres above sea level. Ascending to the Torrent Alps, here skiers are welcomed with 50kms of runs, and in the summer, there is a myriad of hiking and mountain biking trails. The summit has panoramic views of the Italian and French Alps, and of the Valais where the peaks rise up to 4,000m. One cable car connects to the Gemmi Pass, which has comfortable walks around the picturesque Daubensee lake, and even in winter, the routes are well signposted and perfect for cross-country skiing. The thermal springs make Leukerbad an ideal spa destination, and several Leukerbad hotels have their own private pools. Lindner Alpentherme and Burgerbad are large public baths.
