Introduction to Lausanne - Ouchy
Ouchy, in the south of Switzerland's Lausanne, is a port, commune and popular lakeside resort on the shores of Lake Geneva. Popular with visitors for its views of close by France, Ouchy is also a favourite area for skateboarding and roller-skating. The stunning views of the Alps and the lake, and the cool air during summer, have made the town an extremely busy destination. Around the port there is a cluster of Ouchy hotels and recommended restaurants. Once a small fishing village, the town was incorporated into Lausanne during the mid-19th century to act as a port on Lake Geneva. Today the town hosts extreme sports competitions throughout the year, meaning extreme sport enthusiasts visit it during summer and winter months. One of the most interesting buildings in the area is an old medieval castle, previously used as a residence for bishops and a prison but which has now been converted into a hotel.Visit our Lausanne Travel Guide
