Herbriggen is a small village in the canton of Valais, southwestern Switzerland. The village is a stop on the metre-gauge railway that is operated by Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn (BVZ). The station is located on the main Dorfstrasse, just 500 metres south of the village centre. In fact, the village is just eight miles below the train's terminus at Zermatt, one of the most popular skiing areas in the Valais Alps. As such, Herbriggen hotels make excellent bases for skiers heading in this direction. They offer all the usual facilities, such as ski storage, as well as a peaceful retreat from the livelier ski resorts. The village centre has its own restaurants and supermarket, so travellers don't have to go far in the evenings. In summer, the village is popular with visiting hikers and cyclists, while there is also a golf course less than a couple of miles from Herbriggen. One of the most popular hiking trails is south of the village of Randa. This hike is suitable for all abilities and shouldn't take more than 1 hour, 10 minutes.
