Introduction to Gruyere, Switzerland
The quaint medieval Swiss town of Gruyere is world-famous for the strong-smelling, blue-veined cheese to which it gave its name. Set in the Gruyere district of the Fribourg canton, the town as well as the district are significant tourism destinations for heritage buildings and natural beauty as well as its cheeses. Agriculture, formerly important in this hilly region, has been replaced by the service industry, with Gruyere hotels welcoming visitors with traditional Swiss hospitality. The historic town is perched at the crown of an isolated hill to the north of the Swiss Alps, with the River Saane running in the valley. At 2,000m above sea level, the stark triangular peak of Mount Moleson looms over Gruyere and its valley villages and hill towns. This is an ancient area with much to delight history and architecture buffs, especially in the lovely medieval city of Gruyere with its castle and charming streets. Of course, no holiday in the region would be complete without a visit to a Gruyere cheese factory!other spellings: gruyrehotels, gruyere otel, gruyee hotell, guyere hote, gryere hotes, gruere hotle
