Gordola is a town of 4,400 people in the far south of Switzerland. It comes under Locarno district, a part of Switzerland which is regarded as Italian-speaking. It is a town where old and new stand side-by-side. It's not uncommon to see ancient housing alongside more recent constructions. However, the whole of the Motto-Rongia district comes under historical protection. Travellers can get to the town by air, road or rail. In fact, Locarno's regional airport is closer to Gordola than Locarno itself at just a few minutes' drive from the town centre. It receives domestic flights from cities such as Zurich and Bern. Much of the town's commercial enterprise centres on Via S Gottardo, where shops, restaurants and Gordola hotels can all be found. The town's accommodation offers easy access to outdoor pursuits in the surrounding hillsides; cycling and hiking are among the more popular activities. Alternatively, guests can visit the town's Adventure Park. The park has six challenging courses to complete as well as regular performances featuring birds of prey.
