Freienbach is a municipality on the south shore of Lake Zurich, in central Switzerland. The municipality consists of Freienbach village and the neighbouring village of Pfaffikon. The easiest way to get here is by train from Zurich on a journey which takes around 40 minutes. Several stations here are served by three of Zurich's S-Bahn lines; S40, S5 and S8. Much of the tourist activity centres on the lake, where steamboats provide trips during the summer. It is well worth stopping off at the lake's island, Ufenau, which offers walking opportunities as well as lunch at a popular restaurant. The main historical attraction is the renovated Castle Pfaffikon. It is located on the lakeside and is a popular venue for wedding parties. Much of the commercial activity centres on Kantonstrasse, where guests can find restaurants and car hire among other amenities. Many visitors stay in Zurich and visit this area on a daytrip. However, there are a small number of Freienbach hotels which cater to tourists staying a little longer.
