Introduction to Egerkingen, Switzerland

Egerkingen covers an area of just under seven square kilometres, around half of which is forest land. The paths within the woodland cover diverse landscapes and wind for more than 30kms, enabling visitors to see much of the countryside on foot. The downy oak that grows on the southern slopes is a distinct feature of the area, and the lower lands are green with agriculture. For the best views of the town, paths can be followed up Jacob's Ladder or along the Hochi Flue hills which rise up over Egerkingen; at their highest points, the Alps can be seen in the distance. As the town is less than 40 miles from major cities such as Zurich, Basel, Lucerne and Bern, Egerkingen hotels are often used by passing tour groups and businesses and are consequently well equipped for the size of the town. In addition, restaurants are plentiful, consisting of local bistros as well as international dining options.
