Introduction to Cossonay, Switzerland
With its Roman relics and medieval graves, Cossonay, in the very west of Switzerland, close to the border with Germany, is a historic town with plenty of old buildings to see. Founded nearly 1,000 years ago, the town and some of its crumbling buildings date back to the 13th century. Among the most revered is the Church of St-Pierre and St-Paul, which has been listed as a Swiss heritage site. Indeed, the entire town and the nearby village of La Chaux are protected as part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. Cossonay hotels tend to be situated just outside the main centre of the town, and there is the odd four-star plus example for those with the necessary budget. Located on a plateau just over 500 metres above sea level, this town is not as hilly as many other parts of the country but it's still got some interesting walks that take in its unique history.
