Introduction to Brunnen, Switzerland
With its captivating views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains, Brunnen has ample attractions that make the most of the vista. A cable car climbs 1,140m to the top of Urmiberg, a nearby mountain where visitors can fully take in the views of the Urnersee and the Gotthard Massif. Hiking trails which generally don't take longer than 2 hours, 30 minutes to hike lead back down, or the more adventurous can jump off the peak and paraglide over the water for a bird's eye view. Some Brunnen hotels have lake views, while many are spread along the village's main street. Other key attractions include guided tours that delve into the depths of Hell's Hole, Europe's longest cave at 170kms in length. Brunnen is also an interesting stage for music as the sound of 38 bells ringing can be heard here from Switzerland's largest glockenspiel. On the actual lake visitors can choose to follow in the footsteps of King Ludwig II, who was notorious for taking a boat out to play alpine horn music and hear it echo off the surrounding mountains.
