The village of Bevaix and its 3,800 residents lies on a little plateau close to Lake Neuchatel and Neuchatel canton's Boudry district.

It's famous for its excavated Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements and for the dugout canoes dating from the Gallo-Roman era, which clarified shipbuilding techniques at that time.

Its oldest building is its tiny monastery, dating from the late 10th century.

Agricultural until the arrival of the railway and the draining of local wetlands, the area is now mainly residential and hosts several small microtechnology companies.

The pretty town lies at the foot of the Jura Mountains, with Bevaix hotels welcoming skiers in winter, with hikers, walkers, birders and nature-lovers arriving during the spring and summer months to explore the forested slopes of the mountains.

The village's lakeside beach is a popular spot for water sports and picnics in summer, with treks around the lake a favourite as well.

A little marina hosts boats used for cruises and fishing expeditions on the lake.
