Bagnes is a large municipality in the southwest of Switzerland.

At one time, it was the largest municipality in the country, but now it is best known for being home to Verbier ski-resort.

This village has a number of cable cars which offer easy access to intermediate and advanced slopes in the mountains.

Much of the skiing is 'off-piste', but there are also a number of beginner slopes within easy reach of the village.

The village not only caters to experienced skiers, but hardcore party-goers, too.

Many of Verbier's bars and restaurants are open until the early hours.

Le Chable is another Bagnes village, located below Verbier.

This village hosts the municipality's main train station, allowing passengers to get here from Geneva Airport.

From the station, there are buses to both Verbier and Bruson, the latter a much quieter resort.

Le Chable hosts a Mardi Gras parade in February each year.

Bagnes hotels are open all year round.

In the summer, hikers flock to the region to partake in hiking.
