Introduction to Ausserberg, Switzerland
The tiny Swiss hamlet and municipality of Ausserberg lies in the Valais canton's German-speaking western district of Raron and is home to just 656 people. Set on the slope of Lotschberg mountain, it sees its number of inhabitants swollen every winter by skiers and winter sports fans. Originally just a few scattered farms and tiny, isolated settlements on the northern slopes of the Rhone Valley, the village has a good number of heritage buildings and many charming Alpine chalets forming Ausserberg hotels. The picturesque 17th century Town Hall and the Chapel of the Holy Family are atmospheric reminders of the village's agricultural and sheep-herding past. The closest pistes are at Moosalp-Ginals, linked by a bus service departing from the centre of the village. This entire mountain region lies in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschorn, famous for its spectacular natural scenery and remote enough to be a peaceful winter retreat for those seeking non-commercialised winter sports holidays. other spellings: ausserbegrhotels, otel ausserbreg, ausserebrg hotell, aussebrerg hote, ausserebrg
