Tour of the art gallery and museum: the city offers up a number of opportunities to view collections of artworks of Swedish masters. In addition to the impressive Swedish National Museum of Fine Arts, other high-quality galleries and museums are located throughout the city such as the Liljevalch Art Gallery Museum, known for its notable collection of contemporary Swedish and international art, and also the City Art Gallery, the Kurt Svenssons Konsthandel Gallery, the Konsthantverkarna Gallery and the Lundmark Gallery.
Cruise the lake: Stockholm is situated by the sea and comprises 14 islands, with a number of cruises available to take visitors on enjoyable excursions around the area. One of the most popular cruises lasts around two hours, and is called ‘Under the Bridges of Stockholm’, taking in Gamla Stan, Kungsholmen, Langholmen, Lilla Essingen, Reimersholme, Riddarholmen, Skeppsholmen, Soedermalm and Stora Essingen.
Visit the park: a number of parks and gardens are scattered around the various islands that make up Stockholm centre. The Bergius Botanical Gardens are located by the shore at Brunnsviken: this is a nature reserve dating back over 100 years, and home to many native Swedish plant varieties and a number of tropical species as well.
Another nature reserve is located about 20 minutes by car from the city: Tyresta National Park and Nature Reserve boasts a wide array of native plant and animal life. Rosendal Garden, which is found at Djurgarden, is a lovely city spot providing pleasant gardens and green spaces encouraging relaxation.
There are other museums worth a visit as well, including the Army Museum, the Historical Museum of Wines and Spirits and also the Museum of Medieval Stockholm.
