Metro: Stockholm’s metro is the backbone of its public transportation network, featuring more than 100 stations on its three lines (blue, green and red), converging at the city’s central rail station, known as T-Centralen. Metro services begin at 05:00 and continue to 01:00.
Train: the extensive train network is integrated with the city’s metro system, but in reality, it is the latter that will be of greatest use to a visitor to Stockholm. For travel to other parts of the country, the national rail service is an excellent choice, serving cities as far north as Kungsangen and Marsta, and as far south as Gnesta and Nynashamn.
Tram: the tram service in the city is mostly a tourist service, with the number 7 tram, Djurgardslinjen, running past most of the city’s main attractions.
Taxi: taxis are readily available in the city and at the airports, although you’ll probably find that the metro and bus systems are more suitable for short trips around the centre. Taxis can be hailed on the street or arranged in advance by phone.
