Stockholm Travel Guide - Eating Out

Dining in Stockholm can be fairly expensive, so it’s always a good idea (if you’re on a budget) to sample the local cuisine at lunchtime when many restaurants have fixed-priced menus that offer the same fare as is available in the evening, but up to 40 per cent less.
The international choices in the city are actually considerably cheaper and a good choice for your evening meal. You’ll find three main areas that are most popular for eating out: Gamla Stan, Norrmalm and Sodermalm.
Sweden’s version of the sandwich is a good choice for a quick lunch: it’s called a smorgas, and is an open-faced sandwich of rye bread with various toppings. The well-known smorgasbord is closely related, in that it comprises a platter of ingredients starting with rye bread and continuing on through cold meats, cheeses and a variety of sauces. In the evening you’ll find restaurants serving a number of different meat and fish dishes, accompanied by potatoes and miscellaneous side dishes.
