Sweden Travel Guide - Introduction

Stunning country scenery begs to be explored and indeed the Norrland region is considered prime hiking territory and the ideal place to pursue outdoor activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking and orienteering. The Svealand region meanwhile is where you’ll find the country’s most significant urban regions and where cities such as Malmo and Gothenburg attract large numbers of visitors.
Stockholm is the country’s capital and considered by many to be Scandinavia’s most important city. An Old Town offers traditional charm and an abundance of medieval architecture, while the selection of royal palaces and museums, make for some essential cultural appreciation. An excellent selection of hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues remind you of why this is Sweden’s premier city.
Accommodation options are excellent in all of the major cities and in Stockholm in particular where international chains such as Sheraton, Radisson, Best Western and Hilton, operate branches.
Into the rural areas in the north and visitors will find some good opportunities for camping although organised facilities might be sparse and you may need much of your own equipment to get by. Those travelling Sweden on a budget might like to take advantage of its extensive youth hostel network.
