Introduction to Vasteras - Outskirts
It may have only 100,000 inhabitants, but Vasteras is one of Sweden's largest cities. Located right on massive Lake Malaren, the city serves as an important port for commercial and recreational purposes as well as a thriving industrial centre. Vasteras is also one of Sweden's oldest cities, with a fascinating history stretching back to the Viking era. All around the outskirts of this city are interesting historic, cultural and natural highlights worth exploring. While the downtown is distinctly modern, visitors can experience the medieval face of the city by heading up Church Hill on the northern edge of town. A few kilometres further out lies the ancient burial mound at Anundshog, a beautiful place during the summer. In between these two attractions is Djakneberget park, a huge green area with walking paths and hundreds of unusual stone markers. Another great excursion is a visit to Bjorno Island in the lake, which can be reached by bridge or boat. Vasteras hotels come in all price ranges, from affordable pensions to posh high-rise hotels with the finest amenities. other spellings: vasterashotels, vasteras otel, vateras hotell, hote vasteras, hotle in vateras
