Introduction to Vasteras - City Centre
On the shore of Lake Malaren is Vasteras, one of the oldest cities in northern Europe. Apart from its impressive historic downtown area, the city serves as the largest recreational and commercial port on Lake Malaren. A large section of old buildings along the central creek and around the cathedral have been wonderfully preserved as a historic district. This is where visitors will discover the most historic ambiance, but right next door is the modern part of Vasteras city centre with its distinctly urban feel. Around Stora Gatan are many of the city's trendiest shops, restaurants and bars.
