Introduction to Stockholm - Skarholmen
In the southwest corner of Stockholm is the Skarholmen district, an area famous for its massive concrete apartment blocks built in the 1960s. This part of Stockholm is most popular for Skarholmen Centrum, a huge shopping complex that attracts shoppers from all over the city. The Centrum features most of Sweden's high street names along with dozens of places to eat, movie theatres and other tourist attractions. While there are a handful of Skarholmen hotels in this district, few tourists actually stay in this area of Stockholm. Accommodation here tends toward mid-range business hotels where convenience trumps style. The city's subway system reaches into Skarholmen so it's possible to get to all the attractions of central Stockholm using public transportation. The selection of amenities, such as restaurants and bars, is rather thin in this mainly residential suburb, and no public parks or cultural attractions are found here.
