A popular summer tourist destination, Sweden's island of Oland is visited by many travellers and is particularly known among cyclists. Borgolm can be found on the west coast of the island and is where most of Oland's attractions can be found. It is the main city on the island and where the largest concentration of amenities can be found, including a vast selection of Borgholm hotels. Borgholm Castle (Borgholm Slott) is one of the most visited landmarks, and although it is now in ruins, it is still a magnificent sight to see. The Solliden royal summer residence can be found nearby and should not be missed by architecture buffs or those with green thumbs. The stunning beach along the Kalmar Strait is the biggest draw here, and in the summer months, it can become extremely lively. Stora Alvaret, a limestone plain that houses rare species of butterflies and flowers, can easily be accessed from the city and makes for a fantastic daytrip.
