Introduction to Lulea - City Centre
Lulea is a Swedish city with just over 45,000 inhabitants. The town is located in the north of the country and can be reached by sea or land. The airport is located around 10 minutes' drive from the city centre, and there are airport buses which operate service to and from the airport from the centre. Lulea boasts one of the world's oldest indoor shopping centres. Shopping, as it is aptly called, opened in 1955 and was designed by Ralph Erskine, a British born architect. More recent additions in the city include the Smedjan, Folksamhuset and Strand shopping centres and Sweden's first 'youth-galleria', Storgaten 61. Lulea city centre has two main shopping streets: Kungsgated and Storgaten. The city is known for its industry, and many businesses and offices for multinational corporations have been drawn here by the university's educational programmes. Lulea city centre hotels offer up plenty of charm for guests visiting this area of Sweden.
