WEST COAST
The easiest to access from the airport, the west coach can be reached within two hours from the heart of Colombo.
Negombo: in the Gampaha district is located 37kms north Colombo and only 6kms from the airport. A local fishing town set amid coconut palms, Negombo boasts golden beaches and water rich with a variety of fish. Here you can also satisfy your palate with plenty of fresh seafood. During the Dutch period, a canal, a fort and a church were built in the area. Today, you can still see the ruins of these landmarks that adorn the beach.
SOUTH COAST
Just a bit further from the west coast, this coastline has all of the attractions of the West coast, but without the crowds.
Beruwela: boasts tropical palm trees, white sandy beaches and turquoise water. Beruwela is 56kms from Colombo towards the south. There have been increasingly more resorts mushrooming around the area although it is not as busy as other beaches. This beach resort is very popular with honeymooners as it is a true tropical paradise.
Ambalangoda: is only 30 minutes away from Bentota and is a beautiful sandy beach with a lovely rocky islet. The beach is best-known for its mask carving, showing meticulous skills of the local craftsmanship. Visitors can also observe local devil dancing here.
Hikkaduwa: boasts stunning marine life, making it a paradise for divers. The beach itself is very picturesque and is regarded as the prettiest beach in Ceylon. There is a coral sanctuary on the coast of Hikkaduwa which is home to countless number of fish of various kinds
NORTH COAST
The north coast of Sri Lanka is renowned for its tranquillity. With very limited accommodation for tourists, it is the ideal location to escape to while admiring pristine beaches and coasts, offshore islets and stunning peninsula.
Jaffna: is 398 kms from Colombo on the north coast of Sri Lanka. It is a beach town with many beaches of its own. Head to Casuarina Beach, situated at Karainagar or to the secluded beaches at Santhakulam and Thondaimannar. The impressive sand dunes of Manalkadu are also not to be missed.
Arugam Bay: is a tiny fishing village in the South Coast. It is a wide sweeping beach which is ideal for swimming. Arugam Bay is usually very quiet and peaceful housing just a few basic hotels and guesthouses.
Trincomalee: is one of the world’s deepest harbours that offers spectacular views and stunning beaches. There is also a thriving market and an economic centre. Nilaveli Beach in Trincomalee is a 4km stretch of beach and has become one of the East Coast’s most popular destinations for tourists.
