The Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya: are surrounded by the river Mahaweli on three sides. There is a suspension bridge connecting the garden to the other side of the bank which is sure to keep the children entertained while adults can admire more than one hundred varieties of palm trees, glossy foliage and beautiful orchid houses. Rare blossoms and spice trees can also be found in this garden, making it one of the remarkable botanical sites. Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage: is home to young orphaned elephants and is a must for all animal lovers from across the world. The popular elephant orphanage is located 20kms west of Kandy and offers shelters for elephants that have lost their parents. The perfect time to visit is at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00 when the keepers take the animals down to the river to bathe and play in the water. Shopping: in Kandy is a fantastic experience. There are a large number of shopping destinations including Sri Lanka’s largest commercial shopping complex. If you want to shop for local products, Kandy offers the chance to buy exquisite handicrafts and art pieces.
