Introduction to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka
Nuwara Eliya, or the city of light, is known for its tea making. This mountain village is best known for producing some of Sri Lanka’s best teas and sits at the base of the highest mountain in Sri Lanka. The town was originally founded by a Brit to be a mountain resort town for the elite British settlers in the area. Today, mountain activities such as hiking, cycling, and golf are still popular. Hotels in Nuwara Eliya are still situated up across from the base of the mountain, offering some of the country’ s most scenic mountain views. Nearby Lake Gregory is a great place to picnic, hike, and enjoy water sports on the lake. Many of Nuwara Eliya hotels are situated on or near to the lake. Hortons Plains National Park is also a popular tourist spot which offers an expanse of mountain countryside. Visitors may also wish to tour one of the area’s many tea factories, which produce some of Sri Lanka's most famous teas. Tea factory tours can usually be arranged at one of the many hotels in Nuwara Eliya.other spellings: nuwaraeliya otel, nuwara aliya hotell, nuvara eliya hote, eleya hotes, nuwara hotls
