Introduction to Kandy - Aladeniya
Aladeniya, Sri Lanka, is a picturesque and posh village situated just 10kms northwest of the city of Kandy and 91kms northeast of Sri Lanka's national capital, Colombo. Although this is primarily a residential area, there are a few impressive Aladeniya hotels which provide quiet refuges from the bustling nearby city of Kandy. Aladeniya is conveniently situated on the highway leading to the former 13th century royal capital of Kurunagala, in addition to its brief distance from Sri Lanka's unofficial cultural capital, Kandy. This village and its surrounding district are filled with fascinating treks and living traditions as the British did not conquer this part of central Sri Lanka until 1815. The Temple of the Tooth, containing a tooth relic from the Lord Buddha and Peradeniya's Royal Botanical Garden, considered the best in Sri Lanka, is also not far from here.
