Introduction to Cultural Triangle - Anuradhapura
The city of Anuradhapura is located in north-central Sri Lanka and is part of the well-known Cultural Triangle. The city is home to a famous archaeological site in its Old Town, meaning that it sees a regular influx of visiting tourists. Holders of a Cultural Triangle ticket can access all the sites in the Old Town, while tickets solely for this destination are also available. Bodhi Tree Temple is considered to be one of the most sacred places in Sri Lanka, but visitors shouldn't miss the Ruwanwelisaya either; it is the city's oldest stupa. Sites are quite spread out so it's a good idea to rent a motorised rickshaw for the day. The New Town is much smaller so it's easy to get around this part of the city on foot. Guests who stay at Anuradhapura hotels have the opportunity to visit the New Town's many shops as well as its bustling market. In addition, plenty of souvenir sellers can be found around the ancient city itself. Travellers can get to Anuradhapura by bus or train. Buses from Kandy take around five hours and terminate at the bus station in the New Town.Visit our Cultural Triangle Travel Guide
