Introduction to Colombo - Beach
Sri Lanka is synonymous with beautiful coastline and Colombo Beach has some fantastic areas to relax or partake in beach activities. There are beaches dotted all along Colombo's shoreline and in surrounding areas, with perhaps the most famous Negombo and Mount Lavinia. On Negombo Beach, it is possible to find diving schools and businesses renting water sports equipment such as sea kayaks and snorkelling gear. Close by are the remains of a Dutch fort and the beautiful St Sebastian Church. Mount Lavinia, on the other hand, is busier than Negombo and on the weekends, tourists and locals alike flock here to relax due to its proximity to the centre of Colombo. The former Governor's House, which has been transformed into a hotel, is located in Mount Lavinia, above the beach on a cliff.
