Tenerife Travel Guide - Festivals & Events

January Festivals

Kings Festival: this small festival held every January showcases local handicrafts in a market in Santa Cruz, and usually last four days.
February Festivals

Carnival: Tenerife’s annual carnival is believed by many to be second only to Rio de Janeiro. The month long festivities are held in February and include musical events, marching bands, colourful costumes and general partying. The Grand Parade is the focal point but there are many other events. Santa Cruz is central to everything, but other smaller towns and villages are also involved.
June Festivals

Musical Festival of the Canary Islands: this prestigious festival is held every June and is one of the most impressive classical musical events in Europe. A number of Europe’s finest orchestras and performers take part.
Corpus Christi: this is a local festival held in June which features volcanic earth and carpets of flowers in La Laguna and La Orotava.

Festival of San Juan: this June festival celebrates a Guanches tradition when people take their goats and other animals to the sea to clean them. In Icod, people build campfires which they decorate with flowers prior to lighting.
November Festivals

San Andres Wine Festival: this recent addition to the Tenerife calendar takes place in the towns of La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz and Icod in November and showcases local wines, with plenty of tasting opportunities.
