Tenerife Travel Guide - Eating Out

Traditionally, Canary Island cuisine is fairly light, with a focus on high quality fresh fruit, vegetables and fish. There is also plenty of influence from Africa and Latin America, which when fused with traditional Spanish recipes produces some unique and tasty results.
As you would expect, Tenerife is famed for its wonderful fresh fish. Some of the fish that you might find in restaurants here include: Blue Marlin, tuna, mackerel, sardines, squid, parrot fish, sword fish, turbot and sole, among many others.
For deserts, there are plenty of fruits growing on the island, or for the sweeter tooth, bienmesabe, a combination of egg, honey, almond cream and rum.
There are also many places serving Spanish favourites such as Paella and Tortilla. In some of the restaurants in the smaller villages you will find plenty of rabbit and goat on the menu, traditionally popular on the island, but in the main tourist resorts chicken and pork is more common today.
