Fiestas del 2 de Mayo: party lovers everywhere flock to Madrid for the Fiesta del 2 de Mayo, an annual carnival that sees brightly coloured parades in which the locals don equally bright costumes and a variety of street-based festivities ensue.

The culmination of the festival is on Ash Wednesday to mark the beginning of the catholic period known as Lent and aside from the burial of the sardine traditional, there’s open-air dancing, bullfights, live music and more.
June Festivals
Feria Taurina: lasting from mid-May until mid-June, the Feria Taurina is famous in Madrid and is held to coincide with the Fiestas de San Isidro. Activities are conducted at the Plaza Monumental Las Ventas bullring and are comprised of traditional bullfighting exhibitions as well as dance performances, live music concerts and open-air celebrations.

Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida: it’s customary on June 13th for young girls to make pilgrimages to the Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida, a chapel where Spanish folklore holds that a girl can be married within a year if she follows a bizarre ritual which involves placing pins into the chapel’s baptismal font.
