Health

Health for Visitors to Spain
EU citizens will be given reciprocal health benefits that include free emergency health care at state run hospitals. However, treatment at private clinic and illnesses that are not in need of urgent treatment will not be covered under this agreement. All travellers should purchase comprehensive travel insurance as this will mean they can choose to obtain treatment at private hospitals.
There are many good pharmacies throughout Spain, but it occasionally may be difficult to obtain certain types of medication. Travellers are also recommended to carry with them all medications that they are currently consuming as a precaution. It is best to avoid drinking unfamiliar water and to only drink bottled water to avoid stomach upsets.
