Sitges: is the most popular resort in Barcelona's immediate surroundings and is home to a stunning beach. Sitges was once a peaceful fishing town, today it is one of the most expensive towns to live in Spain.
The atmosphere is lively and there is an excellent nightlife to be had, although the town still manages to preserve its old charm. It is also home to one of Spain’s most popular carnivals as well as being renowned for its gay bars. It can be found just 40 kms south of Barcelona and is well worth a trip.
Salou: is home to one of Spain’s top theme parks. Port Aventura is a mega theme park which is designed with Catalonian, Chinese, Mexican and Wild West motifs.
Montserrat: is home to a stunning 9th century monastery located in a mountain setting. The monastery, which is located at the top, offers unforgettable views as well as housing the sacred image of la ‘Verge de Montserrat’ (Montserrat Virgin). This is a mythical place for many Catalans and offers excellent hiking opportunities. The monastery is just 40kms west of Barcelona.
Figueres: is where the impressive Salvador Dali Museum can be found. The museum is a must-see because the building is designed by Dali himself. The building does not disappoint Dali buffs and neither does the artwork inside. Figueres is just over 100kms north of Barcelona.
